In December 2024, Section 1, Maintaining Confidentiality about a Person or Carer was amended to clarify that the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR do not prevent the sharing of information for safeguarding purposes. 

In December 2024, Section 4, Understanding the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards was updated to provide additional clarity about continuous supervision, free to leave and state imputability. In Section 5, a need to know box was added with information about responding to requests from an eligible person. The link to the ADASS Priority Tool for Deprivation of Liberty Requests was also updated in Section 5, Receiving a Standard Authorisation Request.

A new Section 15, Challenging an Authorisation using Section 21A and new Section 16, The Future of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards were added in December 2023. At the same time, the chapter Liberty Protection Safeguards Procedure was deleted.
